The NIE is a personal, unique and exclusive number assigned for identification purposes to foreigners who have ties to Spain because of their economic, professional or social interests.

The NIE processed through the consular offices allows you to carry out procedures with the Spanish government services, but is not valid for residence, nor does it prove that you reside in Spain.

Foreigners wishing to settle in Spain should inform themselves in advance about the need to apply for a visa. Citizens of the European Union must register once in Spain in the Central Immigration Register.

It is necessary to demonstrate why a foreign identity number is being requested.
